  6.             1.  OVERVIEW
  7.  
  8.             This disk  demonstrates SCHEMA,  a powerful, yet inexpensive
  9.             schematic  capture   program  that   lets  engineers  create
  10.             schematics, wire/net/pin lists, bills of materials and other
  11.             engineering documentation on IBM PCs and compatibles.
  12.  
  13.             This demo disk contains three programs:
  14.  
  15.             1)   A self-running  demo of  SCHEMA's Schematic  and Object
  16.             Editor program,  SCHDRAW.   This program  runs by itself and
  17.             shows many of the capabilities of SCHDRAW.
  18.  
  19.             2)  A demo version of SCHEMA's post-processor, SCHPOST.  The
  20.             SCHPOST program  does not  require any  user interaction and
  21.             automatically generates  a complete  set  of  post-processor
  22.             outputs from the demo schematic.

  24.             3)   An interactive  version  of  SCHEMA's  editor  program,
  25.             SCHDRAW.   If you  have a  mouse, this  program lets you use
  26.             SCHDRAW to create schematics and objects.  Read and/or print
  27.             the file  SCHDRAW.DOC  for  more  info  on  the  interactive
  28.             version.

  30.             The SCHDRAW and SCHPOST programs are demo versions of two of
  31.             the  seven  programs  that  comprise  SCHEMA.    SCHDRAW  is
  32.             SCHEMA's schematic  and object  editor.  SCHPOST is SCHEMA's
  33.             post-processor, providing  design rule  checks, wire/net/pin
  34.             lists, usage  reports, and bill of materials extraction from
  35.             SCHDRAW-produced schematic  drawings.   The standard  SCHEMA
  36.             programs that  are not  provided on  this disk  are SCHBACK,
  37.             SCHPRINT, SCHPLOT,  SCHLIB,  and  SCHCFG.    These  programs
  38.             provide PCB  layout  back  annotation,  batch  printing  and
  39.             plotting, object  library management, and configuration file
  40.             management functions,  respectively.  The SCHDRAW version on
  41.             this disk  is identical  to the  actual version,  except  no
  42.             disk-write or print operations can be done.

  46.             2.  HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
  47.  
  48.             The following  hardware is  required to  run the  demo  disk
  49.             programs:
  50.  
  51.             IBM PC/XT/AT  or compatible  with at least 512K RAM, DOS 2.0
  52.             or above,  and one  of the following graphics adapter types:
  53.             IBM Standard  Color Graphics  Adapter, IBM Enhanced Graphics
  54.             Adapter (EGA), Hercules Monochrome, AT&T 6300, Sigma Designs
  55.             Color 400, or Tecmar Graphics Master.

  57.             A Microsoft, Mouse Systems, Logitech, or Torrington mouse is
  58.             required to run the interactive version of SCHDRAW.

  64.             The actual  SCHEMA  program  supports  all  HP  and  Houston
  65.             Instrument plotters,  in addition  to a  variety of printers
  66.             including all  Epson graphics  printers  (including  the  LQ
  67.             series), Toshibas,  Star Micronyx,  Okidata 192/193, and the
  68.             Apple Imagewriter  series.  The HP LaserJet+ and Canon LBP-8
  69.             A2 laser printers are also supported.

  73.             3.  RUNNING THE SELF-RUNNING SCHDRAW DEMO
  74.  
  75.             To run the self-running SCHDRAW demo, do the following:
  76.  
  77.                       1) Boot the system normally.
  78.  
  79.                       2) Place  the SCHEMA demo disk in drive A and type
  80.                        A: (this selects drive A).
  81.  
  82.                       3) Enter  one of the following commands, depending
  83.                       on the graphics adapter type in your system:
  84.  
  85.                                 IBMCOLOR     (IBM Standard Color, Tecmar
  86.                                               Graphics Master, Sigma                         
  87.                                               Designs Color 400)

  89.                                 IBMENHAN     (EGA)
  90.

  99.             NOTE:   The self-running  SCHDRAW demo  does not support the
  100.             high-resolution  capabilities   of  the  AT&T  6300,  Tecmar
  101.             Graphics  Master   and  Sigma  Designs  Color  400  graphics
  102.             adapters.   The high-resolution  modes of these adapters are
  103.             supported in the interactive demo version only.

  105.             After the  applicable graphics adapter command is entered, a
  106.             batch file  is invoked  and the  self-running  SCHDRAW  demo
  107.             program starts.   You  are asked  one question pertaining to
  108.             execution speed.   If  you have  a standard  speed PC  or XT
  109.             respond with 'A'.  If you have a faster PC, such as an AT or
  110.             COMPAQ DeskPro,  respond with  'B'.   The 'B' response slows
  111.             the program  down for  use on  these faster machines.  After
  112.             you have  run the  program once, you may want to use the 'C'
  113.             response.   This takes  out the  wait times and executes the
  114.             demo at  full-speed.   The demo program can be paused at any
  115.             time by  pressing any  key,   it continues by again pressing
  116.             any key.

  124.             4.  RUNNING SCHPOST
  125.  
  126.             SCHPOST contains SCHEMA's post-processing programs.  SCHPOST
  127.             automatically produces  six different  outputs, derived from
  128.             an input  set of  schematic drawings.    These  six  outputs
  129.             include a  list of Routing Errors, six Design Rule Checks, a
  130.             Wire List,  a Net  List (a machine-readable form of the Wire
  131.             List), a  Pin List  (expanded Net  List), two  useful  Usage
  132.             Reports, and a Bill of Materials (BOM).  Additional programs
  133.             are included  (at no  extra charge)  with the  actual SCHEMA
  134.             package to  convert SCHEMA's  Net  List  output  to  formats
  135.             required by  logic simulation,  wire wrap,  and  PCB  layout
  136.             autorouting systems.   These  include  systems  from  Augat,
  137.             Cadnetix, Calay,  Computervision, dataCon, FutureNet, Racal-
  138.             Redac, SCICARDS, SPICE,  and Telesis.

  140.             A two-page  sample schematic  (LOGIC.P01 and  LOGIC.P02) has
  141.             been included  on  this  disk  to  let  you  run  the  post-
  142.             processor.  To run SCHPOST, from DOS enter:

  144.             SCHPOST LOGIC A
  145.  
  146.             This invokes the post-processor (SCHPOST), informs it of the
  147.             schematic name  (LOGIC),   and runs  all (A) six 'sub' post-
  148.             processors, each  one  automatically  creating  one  of  the
  149.             outputs discussed  above.   All readable outputs are sent to
  150.             the screen as SCHPOST executes.  Also, a file, LOGIC.NET, is
  151.             created which  contains the net list.  Use the <CNTRL> <NUM-
  152.             LOCK> keys  to control  output screen  viewing.  If desired,
  153.             make a hardcopy of the output by entering:

  155.             SCHPOST LOGIC A >PRN
  156.  
  157.             This time,  when SCHPOST  runs, all  output is  sent to your
  158.             printer.

  160.             NOTE: The  Bill of  Materials output is 120 columns wide, so
  161.             the appropriate printer mode or wide paper is required.

  165.             5.  RUNNING THE INTERACTIVE SCHDRAW DEMO
  166.  
  167.             The file  SCHDRAW.DOC contains  additional documentation  on
  168.             using the interactive SCHDRAW program. SCHDRAW.DOC should be
  169.             read and/or printed before attempting to use SCHDRAW.
